Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

The Bible reminds us many times of the value of a TEAM. Proverbs 27:17 says that iron sharpens iron, that is – one good person makes the other better. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us that two people are better than one. They can protect and help one another in times of trouble.

We tell our kids to walk to and from the bus stop together and not to separate. We know that this will help keep them safe. A Team is important: having someone else with us makes the journey easier, serves as protection, gives us someone to consult with, and lightens the load.

The same wisdom holds true in the Church. In order for the Church to realize the vision that God has given, we must work together as a TEAM. No one CAN do the work of the church alone – even what we consider as the small stuff – it’s not possible! All who believe in the vision must roll up our sleeves and use the gifts that God has given in order to achieve that vision.

On Super Bowl Sunday, two TEAMS will play each other for a Championship. One person won’t win it by themselves. If the running back scores, it will be because the offensive line blocked. If a wide receiver catches a pass, it will be because the quarterback threw accurately. If the quarterback throws accurately, it will be because the linemen kept the defense at bay. The same on the other side of the ball: a defensive player will make a play because his teammates did their jobs at their positions. Even the kicker cannot score if the holder doesn’t properly spot the ball…by the way the holder gets the ball from the long snapper…Ha…ha – you get the point!

Football is the quintessential TEAM sport. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work! If they can do it on the gridiron – can we do it in the church? I think so…
